OK so I am 84. I wish I were younger too. But I’ll go by what a young voter told me a while ago: it’s not how old you are, it’s what you say and do. Besides, if Grassley can run again in Iowa for a term in which he’ll be 96 when it ends, and if a Supreme Court Justice can stay on until 110 if they last that long, I can accomplish something in Saint Paul at 85.
Maybe in this election I can get most of the grampa vote – especially the loveable grampa vote. But I’m going after the grumpy grampa vote too by convincing his kids to get him off Fox News, because that’s what’s making him grumpy. The whole business model of Fox News is to find things, and make things up, to get people angry and afraid – and grumpy. If we can together get grampa off Fox News, it will be good for him, for his family, and for America.
And I can always borrow the great line from Reagan in his 1984 debate with Walter Mondale: “I am not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent’s youth and inexperience.”
